CORLHS Keeps Running As XC Competes For 3rd Straight Day

By WJBD Staff Aug 31, 2023 | 7:42 AM

For the 3 night in a row, due to a meet being rescheduled Monday the Christ Our Rock XC Team took to the course at The Murphysboro Invitational today at Riverside Park. The Stallions ran really well on tired legs grabbing 7th place overall out of 18 teams with team scores and 31 teams represented!

As the team scores will show the Stallions beat several area schools and held their own at a big meet!

Coach Tim Koch told WJBD/WSIQ, “I was very proud of everyone’s effort! Our boys fought hard especially when being asked to run 3 meets in a row! They didn’t complain and pushed through discomfort to run well! I thought coming in to today, with the intense competition and running on tired legs if we could wind up in the top 7 today that would be a pretty solid finish.”

The Stallions did just that. Leading the way was Senior Elijah Gregory in 9th place (17:15) and receiving a Top 20 T-shirt! Freshman Carson Pigg continued to impress finishing 23rd (17:52). Jr. Zerek Koch ran a solid #3 for the Stallions finishing 48th in 19:00 for the 3.1mi course. Jr. Isaiah Lyons ran with heart placing 74th (20:30) and Freshman Wyatt Gregory was as solid of #5 as anyone could ask for, finishing 84th (21:07).

There were a total of 142 runners in the Varsity race.

Freshman Anderson Engele and Soph. Liagel Lyons ran in the JV race for the Stallions today. Engele cracked the Top 20 and grabbed the final ribbon placing 20th (21:56) and Lyons was 36th in 25:22.
