The Salem JH Soccer opening weekend of the season was a success! Our 1st/2nd graders had a close scrimmage against each other, with our 1/2 WHITE team edging out the 1/2 RED team with a 7-6 score.
Our 3rd/4th boys dropped their home opener against a competitive New Baden team 2-5. Jonah Findley was behind both goals, off a great assist by Grayson Purinton and converting a penalty kick. Kaysen Findley and Ethan Petrillo  shared time in net.
Our 6th grade girls team combined with some of our 5th graders to take an 8-0 win over a visiting Aviston squad. Sophia Decker, Kinsley Gansauer, and Braelyn Holzhausen had 2 goals each, with Laney Kuhns and Paisley Stanford putting up 1 each. Kuhns and Elouisa Bennett provided quality assists for scoring opportunities. Alei Deitz showed impressive goalkeeping throughout the game.
Our 5th/6th Boys team fell away from home, traveling to Aviston in the afternoon and coming home 5-2. Grayson Frazier and Kayne Rhynes both provided 1, with Trevin Lewis providing some great crosses and putting up 1 assist. Caleb Dice made some excellent saves as goalie.
Our 3rd/4th girls, 5th Grade Girls, and 7th/8th Coed teams have their first official games coming up. 7th/8th plays this upcoming Saturday visiting Centralia with the other two teams opening their season on Saturday, September 9th.
