Sandoval school board acts on number of personnel issues

The Sandoval School Board acted on a number of resignations and filled a number of positions at its meeting this week as the school year got underway.

The board hired Andrew Cunningham as its new full time band/music instructor. He comes from the Selmaville Grade School where he was working part-time. Cunningham replaces Jessica Colvin whose resignation was approved earlier in the meeting.

Brandi Hill will be the new CNA Instructor/Junior-Senior High nurse, replacing MaryBeth Suedmeyer.

Matthew Thompson was hired as the new junior/senior high school physical education teacher replacing Tyler Mitchell. Mitchell’s role as athletic director will be filled by Adam Hanks. His job as head boys basketball coach will be taken by Donnie Shaffer Junior of Sandoval. Shaffer’s father Mike will be assistant coach.

The board hired Megan Parson, Zoe White, Emily Gelsinger and Angela Reilmann as paraprofessionals. They also accepted the resignations of paraprofessionals Hayley Bosler and Ashlynn Ward. The resignation of part-time bus driver Brandon Flannigan was also approved.

The board approved its tentative budget. All funds are in the black. A budget hearing will be held at the September 18th meeting.

The board authorized the purchase of a new electronic scoreboard for the baseball and softball fields.

An agreement was renewed to allow students to continue to take vocational classes through the Okaw Vocational Center in Vandalia. The district also has an agreement for students to participate in the KC Now vocational program.

The Sandoval School District is starting the school year with 439 students.
