Raccoon Grade School is raising money for the Shriners this week with their annual Penny War Fundraiser and Spirit Week. The event leads up to the annual Shrine Football game between Salem and Centralia High School Friday night. Students at Raccoon Grade School split up for high school, attending either Salem or Centralia.
The event is being expanded this year to allow those throughout Salem and Centralia to participate with a bigger prize to the winning team. Whichever side wins will see the mayor of the other city hit in the face with a pie during a Pep Assembly at Raccoon Grade School between 1:30 and 2:30 Friday afternoon. Both Salem Mayor Nic Farley and Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder have joined the fun and have agreed to take the pie in the face. Word is, some teachers may also get pie in the face for the cause.
