The trailer of a semi burned in an early morning fire in the northbound lanes of I-57 just south of the Kinmundy-Patoka exit.
Kinmundy-Alma Fire Chief Kevin Day says the fire apparently started in the brakes on the rear of the trailer. The fire had spread throughout the trailer by the time firemen arrived.
The driver of the truck, who was from Florida, was able to disconnect the cab to keep it from catching fire. He was unable to get the trailer completely off the roadway.
Both northbound lanes were closed for about a half-hour beginning around 2:40 Tuesday morning. One lane remained closed several more hours as the firefighting and cleanup efforts continued.
There were no injuries reported.
