A 33-year-old Centralia woman who allegedly caused second-degree burns on her 7-month-old baby has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated domestic battery.
Stacie Bender of North Walnut Street had originally been charged with a Class X felony offense of aggravated battery to a child under 13.
The aggravated domestic battery charge, like the original class X charge, claimed she had burned the young child multiple times on the torso in an incident at her home in March 2020.
Sentencing for Bender was set for October 11th at one pm following a presentence investigation.
Centralia Police had discovered the injuries to the child after being called by Bender to the home on a domestic battery complaint she had filed against the baby’s father. No charges were filed in connection with that incident.
Police at the time said the child was taken immediately for medical treatment of two burn wounds and placed into protective custody by DCFS.
The aggravated domestic battery charge requires a mandatory jail term of not less than 60 consecutive days.
