A nearly two year appointed member of the Salem City Council attended her last meeting as a councilman Monday night.
Amy (Troutt) Zanton was appointed to fill the remainder of Nic Farley’s term when he was elected Mayor. She then decided not to run for election.
“I’ve learned a lot from the experience and I can certainly say I am far more invested in the city where I’m living now than I was before. And that was a big hope of mine from the experience. It’s been a pleasure working alongside the other council members. They are truly invested and have a heart for the city and that shows. I think the department heads make it look easy managing and running a city and it certainly is not. So I have a greater appreciation for that.”
Zanton hopes whoever replaces her will also be highly invested and will work to make a difference.
The winner of the seat is not clear. At the end of election night, Tracy Crouch received 194 votes and Jeff Baldridge 192 votes.
County Clerk Steve Fox says it appears there are only two additional ballots that have arrived in the mail after election day for the Salem City Council race. The 42 total ballots received since the election will be reviewed to determine which are good and added to the county later Tuesday now that the two weeks has passed for late arriving absentee and vote by mail ballots. The results still won’t be final until the April 25th caucus.
We’ll have the latest election results in the closely contested races when they are released.
