Centralia Police say one male juvenile was shot in the leg and another is being held following a shooting incident Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Rhodes and McKee in Centralia.
Police report the victim was provided immediate medical attention on the scene by Centralia Fire and Lifestar Ambulance before being taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia and later transferred to a St. Louis Hospital in stable condition.
Marion and Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies, Central City, and Wamac Police, and State Police were all requested for assistance. Marion County Sheriff Kevin Cripps was able to locate two male juvenile subjects running from the area and was able to take them into custody. After being questioned at the Centralia Police Station, one juvenile was released and the other was transferred to the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility in Benton.
Centralia Police say this is still an active investigation, and the Centralia Police Department is currently following leads. Area schools have been notified of this incident. Extra officers will be on scene at the Centralia High School and Centralia Junior High on Monday. The suspects and victim knew each other, and it’s believed this is an ongoing issue between them.
