A 20-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been charged with the first-degree murder of a Shawneetown man that occurred last month.
Demetrius Walker is charged in connection with the February 15th murder of 45-year-old Nathan Dobbs who was located deceased in the 100 block of McClernand Avenue in Shawneetown.
Walker was initially taken into custody on an unrelated warrant on March 10th by Mt. Vernon Police and was still being held in the Jefferson County Jail when the Gallatin County States Attorney approved the first-degree murder charge. The bond on the Gallatin County warrant was set at $ 5 million.
Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation reports the investigation is open and ongoing. They reported DCI investigators developed Walker as a person of interest during the death investigation.
