Kell woman charged with two counts of aggravated battery to police after traffic crash

A 21-year-old Kell woman has been formally charged in Marion County Court on Monday with two counts of aggravated battery to a police officer following a single-vehicle traffic crash early Sunday night.

Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say Cheyenne Finley of Kell Road had initially been arrested for obstructing identification after allegedly refusing to give deputies her name.  Once at the jail, she allegedly kicked a correctional officer and then a deputy who came to his assistance. The State’s Attorney’s office elected not to file an obstructing charge.  The bond was set at $5,000.  A public defender was appointed to represent Finley.

Deputies first came into contact with Finley when investigating a single-vehicle crash on Walnut Hill Road at the Schwartz Road intersection in rural Walnut Hill.   Her car was found upside down in the roadside ditch.

Deputies believe Finley got out of the car on her own and walked to a bar in Walnut Hill.   She later left and apparently fell while walking near the railroad tracks.   Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene, but Finley declined treatment.   At that point, she was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail.

The report of the crash came in at 5:29 Sunday evening.

(This story has been corrected to indicate Cheyenne Finley was charged with the two offenses.)
