State lawmakers are getting a closer look at Governor JB Pritzker’s program to prevent and end homelessness.

There are more than 120,000 people experiencing homelessness in Illinois, and the goal of “Home Illinois” according to State Homeless Chief Christine Haley is to bring that down.

“This isn’t some pie in the sky that we can end homelessness some day.  When we say end homelessness it means we have a system that when people come into a homelessness situation, that there is a resource for them on the other side.  And we are very quickly able to connect them to that said resource to stabilize their housing situation.”

The Governor wants to see a $350,000 investment in the program, for things like street outreach, rental assistance, more shelter and permanent supportive housing and a new initiative to help homeless adults find and keep a job.
