The Iuka Fire Protection District has named Patrick Hawkins as its Fireman of the Year. Hawkins has been on the fire department for just about a year, but Fire Chief Ken Eagan says in that time has been a great asset to the department. Before moving, Hawkins was a member of the Salem Fire Protection District.
Two retirees were also honored by being added to the Iuka Fire Protection District Honor Roll Board. They are Nic Hays with 30 years of service and Dan Pearson with seven years on the Iuka Fire Department and a total of 37 years in the fire service. Eagan says this is an honor that has not been awarded for the last 12 years and is reserved for those who have made considerable contributions of service to the fire service.
Eagan also announced the fire district had a record number of calls in 2022. The 173 calls included 119 emergency medical services calls, 12 motor vehicle accidents, ten ground cover fires, nine good intent calls, nine mutual aid calls, seven structure fires, six automobile fires, and one ice/water rescue.
