The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported over 20 calls for wrecks and motorist assists for sliding off slick roads. There were no injuries reported in any of the crashes. Salem Firemen were called to a report of a car on fire on southbound I-57 at mile marker 122 six miles north of the US 50 exit. A mechanical problem apparently caused the fire. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle without injury.
In Jefferson County, Jefferson Fire reported a semi slid off westbound I64 east of Mt. Vernon near the Rest Area and hit a tree. The three occupants were all trapped inside. They were extricated by the fire department before being taken to a Mt. Vernon hospital for treatment. The fire department doesn’t believe any of those injured were from the local area. The call came in at 7:42 Friday morning.
