The Social Service Agency BCMW has announced that the Project Bread Meal Sites in Salem and Centralia will reopen to in-person dining on Monday.
The Meal Sites have only been allowing seniors to pick up meals or to have them delivered by Meals on Wheels since March 2020 when COVID-19 first hit.
While most other activities have resumed earlier, the Illinois Department of Aging kept the Project Bread Meal Sites closed to in-person dining because senior citizens were more susceptible to serious cases of COVID.
The old rules for obtaining a meal are being reinstituted. Anyone 60 or over is eligible to call and reserve a meal by 9:30 the morning they want to come to the meal site. In Salem, the number to call is 618-548-5225 and in Centralia, the number is 618-533-1073.
You will still be able to pick up meals at the Salem and Centralia sites, but you are asked to do so by 11 am. Meals on Wheels deliveries will continue as normal.
As in the past, the two centers will be open by nine in the morning or earlier for activities such as working puzzles, playing cards, and dice games. Bingo will likely resume once a week.
If you have any questions, you can contact the meal site you plan to attend.
