Fire damaged a home east of Salem on Thursday afternoon.

Salem Fire Protection District Fire Marshal Bill Fulton says the fire was at a home occupied by Tony Cluck at 4110 County Farm Road just south of US 50.   He reports it began in a back bedroom that was not being used.   While it was gutted, firemen got a quick stop and the rest of the home received no fire damage but moderate smoke damage.

The cause is believed to be electrical in nature.

Cluck was asleep on the couch in the living room when he woke up and smelled smoke.  He exited the home and called 911.

Kell Firemen provided mutual aid at the scene, while Odin stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.

The fire call came in at 2:28 Thursday afternoon.   Firemen were on the scene about 50 minutes.

The home is owned by Nancy Hartwell.
