Centralia Police say a car stolen from a Centralia resident from the Burger King parking lot Sunday night has been found abandoned and set on fire Monday morning.

Due to another emergency case, Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies took the initial stolen vehicle report from the victim around 9:30 Sunday night and entered the vehicle as stolen.

Centralia Police Dispatch received a report of a suspicious vehicle at the end of Langenfeld Lane on Raccoon Lake just before ten Monday morning.   Officers ran the license plate of the vehicle and determined it came back as stolen from Burger King.  They also noticed the vehicle had a rag hanging out of the gas tank and the rag had been set on fire.   The vehicle also had interior smoke and fire damage.

The Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office along with Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit was contacted to process the vehicle.

Video surveillance and other leads are being investigated into the stolen vehicle.

Police report this is currently an ongoing investigation.  If anyone has information about the case, you may contact Centralia Police Investigations at 618-533-7608.
