Salem Public Works officials say a day-long water outage affecting a several-block area of southwest Salem will start coming to an end around four Monday afternoon.
Water service to the area bounded by West McMackin and West Whitaker and Walnut to Pearl Street was turned off at nine Monday morning to allow for permanent repairs to be made after the line was hit by a contractor on the West Whitaker Street project on Friday.
Temporary repairs were made on Friday, but due to problems in turning off a valve permanent repairs by an outside contractor did not take place until Monday.
Once water service is restored a boil order until further notice will be in effect for the area left without water service. Customers may at first experience low water pressure and dirty water.
