The residents of a Sandoval home all escaped safely after a neighbor notified them early Saturday night that the outside of their home was on fire.

The fire was at the James and Ashton Kruep home at 303 East Arizona.

Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says the east side exterior wall was engulfed in fire upon their arrival.  The fire extended to the attic and roof.

The exterior fire was put out while a water line was laid inside the home to protect the interior.  The roof was vented to reach the fire in the attic.  The fire was brought under control quickly and did not spread to the interior of the bedroom that shared the wall that was on fire.  However, there was significant smoke and water damage.

The rest of the home sustained minor smoke damage.

Several residents were in the home when the power went out and they were notified a short time later by a neighbor that the outside of the home was on fire.

The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to assist in determining the cause of the fire.  It is not considered suspicious.

Odin Fire and Centralia Fire Protection District provided mutual aid at the scene while Centralia City Firefighters stood by at the Sandoval station.

Firemen were on the scene for about two hours beginning at 6:42 pm.   The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
