The Salem Wildcats comeback bid fell just short as they dropped their regular season finale at home to Newton 2-1. The Eagles would take a 2-0 lead after the first half on a goal and assist from Gage Reynolds. However, the Cats would come back with an Eli Baker goal late in the 2nd half and the pressure was building for the equalizer but time ran out. Baker scored his 27th goal of the season.
Although the Salem Wildcats soccer team doesn’t open their 1a Regional until tomorrow when they host Wesclin at 10am, the post season does get underway today. Altamont hosts Robinson, Pana is at Arthur, Carlyle goes to Maryville Christian, Newton hosts St Anthony, Staunton hosts Metro East Lutheran.
