The Franklin Park Bobcats baseball season ended at 20-6 after falling to undefeated Highland in the opening round of the SIJHSAA Class L state tournament. Salem was tied in the game 4-4 after 3 innings and only trailed 6-4 heading into the 4th when the defense let them down and allowed Harrisburg to tack on enough runs for the short game win 19-4. Payton Gullion singled home a run, Kyler King had a hit and drove in 2 runs, Evan Barnes singled, Landon Maxey had a hit and run, Keytin Grawe scored twice and Scout Puricelli scored a run.
Also in Class L Saturday, Misstadt defeated Carterville 7-2, O’Fallon Fulton 4-1 winners over Flora, DuQuoin got a great pitching performance from Cy Kraft as they beat Highland 2-0.
In Class M baseball opening round games, Sesser shutout Nashville 5-0, Hardin over Albion 4-0, Smithton beat Johnston City 9-5 and St James – ICC over Marissa 17-0.
In Class S baseball, St John’s Lutheran Red Bud beat Our Lady of Mount Carmel 6-1, Holy Childhood Mascoutah beat St Joe Olney 10-3, Galatia over Lick Creek 8-3 and Woodlawn beat Altamont Lutheran 12-1.
