Franklin Park Wins Class L Region 8 Title
The Franklin Park Bobcats are regional champions following yesterday’s 5-3 win over Wesclin in the Class L Region 8 championship played at Rotary Field in Centralia.
Avery Gullion was really good on the mound in the start. The right-hander went 5.2 innings allowing just 2 earned runs and 4 strikeouts. He also got 2 huge strikeouts with the tying runs on base in the 5th and 6th innings. Payton Gullion came in and got the final 4 outs for the save as Salem improved to 20-5 on the year.
At the plate, Kyler King went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Salem also got RBI from Landon Maxey, Evan Barnes and Max Vincent. Jaret Gibson scored a run and Avery Gullion singled and scored. Keytin Grawe had a hit and 2 runs scored.
Salem advances to the Class L State Tournament that opens next Saturday at Rotary Field in Centralia when they take on undefeated Harrisburg who beat Marion in their regional championship 17-2.
Also in Class L, Flora beat Mt Carmel in the Carmi semifinal 17-1 and will get Olney after their 13-0 win over Carmi.
Selmaville Scores Big Win Over Odin/Patoka, Will Get Top Seed ALIS In Finals Monday
The Selmaville Rockets are into their Class S regional final after a 17-2 win over Odin/Patoka scoring 13 times in the 2nd inning to pull away. Wyatt McCarty and Brendan Smith combined on the 1-hitter. McCarty went 3 innings allowing a hit and 2 runs with 4 strikeouts. Smith worked the final inning. At the plate, Smith drove in 3 runs, Riley Tate added 2 RBI with runs driven in also by McCarty who had 3 hits and 4 runs, Kai Graham who also scored 3 times, Zane Dodson and Jaxon Ward. Logan Butts had 2 hits and 2 runs. The Rockets advance to the 5:30 regional finals on Monday when they play top seed Altamont Lutheran after their 20-0 win over Iuka last night.
