The Salem Fire Protection District will be holding its annual 9/11 Memorial Observance in Bryan Memorial Park on Saturday.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Miller says the activity will begin with the ‘Run to Remember’ at 8:45 am.
“This year we are going to continue with the ‘Run to Remember’. It’s almost a 5K run, not quite. It commemorates the number of steps firefighters made as they ascended the World Trade Center. The farthest that one individual got was 88 floors. That was the distance we picked to remember that.”
Following the “Run to Remember”, Mayor Nick Farley will be delivering the keynote address at 10 AM.
Miller says the program will conclude with games for the kids.
“We’ll have some games for the kids, they will be able to do the water fights like we do when we do some training and some other firefighter games and those will last until about noon.”
