A 32-year-old Wamac man has been sentenced in Marion County Court on Friday to six years in prison for unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.
Donald Hemmings of Wabash Avenue was found guilty of the charge following a May jury trial where the jury deliberated for just a half-hour before finding him guilty.
Hemmings was charged with delivering less than an ounce of fentanyl in a controlled buy arranged by Centralia Police.
Judge Mark Stedelin handed down the sentence. In an earlier hearing, he rejected Hemmings’ motion for a new trial. Hemmings will be given credit for 357 days already served in the Marion County Jail.
Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth is commending Assistant State’s Attorney Tara Steele for her work in handling the case from the filing, through trial, to the sentencing hearing.
Steele asked for an eight to ten-year prison term. Hemming’s public defender Jordan Vandeveer asked for probation.
