Centralia City Council to consider special use permits for cannabis grow facility and water main replacement

By WJBD Staff Jul 25, 2022 | 8:36 AM

The Centralia City Council will be asked Monday night to approve new special uses in the I-1 Light Industrial District to include Adult Use Cannabis Craft Grower and Adult Use Cannabis Transporting Organization or Transporter.

The Planning Commission earlier approved the amendments noting they need to be made to reflect the present and future developments in this area. If approved, the planning commission has already okayed special use permits for Charles Voss to operate a cannabis grow and transporter facility in the former Plastiflex facility on Aaron Parkway. Voss has already received necessary permits from the state pending a satisfactory location that meets the high security requirements.

The Centralia City Council will be asked to award a $235,000 bid for supplies to Utility Pipe Sales Company for the pipe to replace a five-thousand foot cast iron waterline in the area of the Barton Bottoms north of the water plant that feeds the Kaskaskia water tower which provides service to the college and prison. City staff will complete the installation. Public Works Director Jeff Schwartz says the 12 inch water line has a long history of water main breaks.

The council will also be asked to approve a $243,224 bid from Furlong Excavating, Incorporated to replace the water main on North Poplar from Rhodes to East McCord.

The council will review a request for a Class A liquor license from the owner of Lucky Dogs at 8079 Jolliff Bridge Road. Teresa Guinzy earlier told the council despite efforts to do so she is not meeting the requirements for a restaurant liquor license because her food sales are under 50-percent of her business and does not want to have to close.

The council will consider the sale of property at 902 South Marion to C-Town Twist for $3,800. The bid was tabled at the last meeting because a super majority was not available to approve the sale of surplus city property since councilman Jeff Castelari is involved in the ownership of C-Town Twist.

The council will be asked to appoint Rachel Wallace to the Tourism Commission.

The meeting begins at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall.
