In North Carolina, former Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, is projected to win his Senate race, beating a challenge from former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley.
Cooper’s projected win flips the seat blue in a state President Donald Trump won three times. The seat is currently held by outgoing Republican Sen. Thom Tillis who is not seeking reelection.
North Carolina voters will also decide a couple of competitive House races on Tuesday, notably in the state’s 1st and 11th Congressional Districts. North Carolina redrew its congressional map last year to advantage Republicans.
