Viola “Oley” Reuter, 88, of Centralia, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026. She was born in Hoyleton, Illinois, the daughter of Gustav Sprehe and Lena (Harre) Sprehe.
She married Melvin “Paul” Reuter on March 3, 1956, in Nashville, IL, and he preceded her in death on July 19, 2022.
Oley is survived by one son, David Reuter and wife Barbi of Tuscan, AZ: two daughters, Connie Profancik and husband Marc of Centralia and Sally Wier and husband Tim of Sugarland, TX; nine grandchildren, Justin Profancik and wife Renee of St. Joseph, IL, Lindsey Gant and husband Brian of Vacaville, CA, Nick Profancik and wife Katelyn of St. Louis, MO, Wilson Reuter and wife Shannon of Mission Viejo, CA, Katie Wier of Sugarland, TX, Amy Michaels and husband Joshua of Houston, TX, Emily Wier of Houston, TX, Bennett Soriano of Houston, TX, and Delaney Reuter of Tuscan, AZ; 13 great-grandchildren, Aubree, Keegan, Oliver, Maggie, Elliott, Hadley, Vera, August, Isaac, Judah, Noelle, Hunter and Hudson; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Lena Sprehe, her husband Melvin “Paul” Reuter, and two brothers, Marvin and Norman Sprehe.
She had a number of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and playing golf. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and the laughter they shared. She felt “very blessed and proud to have such a wonderful family”. Oley supported her husband in the pharmacy where she worked beside him for many years. She will be dearly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
Services for Oley Reuter will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Centralia, with Rev. Mark Myers officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of services at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Friedens UCC Cemetery in Irvington and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home, 235 North Sycamore Street, Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618) 532-3523, which is honored to be of service to Oley’s family.
