The Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce is expecting a big crowd for this year’s AppleFest that will be held at the Marion County Fairgrounds on Saturday.
Executive Director Sieretha Howe says everyone is asked to enter this year from the fairground’s Lake Street entrance and then park in the large field that is just inside the gate. She reports as you walk into the grounds you will see the expanded children’s area that will include a petting zoo, inflatables, and a variety of games and activities.
“We’ve been on the hunt for some good new vendors, and just kind of branching out and seeing what we can bring to Salem,” Howe said. “You’ll see a lot of vendors that are from out of town coming in to be able to set up and show you their goods. Right now, we have about 92 craft vendors, and 15 or so of the food trucks and drink vendors.”
Howe says AppleFest opens at ten and continues until four pm. The Apple Wars apple cooking contest will be held at noon and Mr. and Mrs. Apple Dumpling will be crowned at two pm. Music will be provided by Matt Bosler.
Admission at the gate is $5 per vehicle.
AppleFest is sharing the fairgrounds on Saturday with the Coon Hunt events that have been underway this week. Howe has worked with the fair board to avoid any conflicts between the two events.
