The Salem City Council Monday night approved a downtown TIF-3 project to be utilized to stabilize a downtown building that has fallen into poor condition. Jeb Harrell who operates Poor Boys Furniture at 121 to 123 West Main recently bought the building at a tax sale. Harrell will receive $10,000 reimbursement to replace the roof, $3,987 to improve the west wall, and $3,000 towards flooring improvements. Reimbursements will be made after each project is completed. Harrell says the last two owners have left the building falling into disrepair. He wants to replace the roof this year to prevent any further damage.
The council approved an $18,812 contract with Civil Design Engineering for work on the Cottonwood Lift Station.
The city’s flood plain ordinance was amended to correct a typographical error.
The council set Trick or Treating for Saturday, October 31st, from six to eight for those 12 and under.
Mayor Nic Farley announced he had presented a key to the city to John and Connie Cavaletto on their 60th anniversary. He said the award was well deserved for everything they have done for the city.
