Mr. Fredrick Eugene “Fred” McDaniel, of Mayfield, KY. and formerly of Centralia, IL. Passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at the Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield.
Fred was born in Wilson, N.C. on Tuesday, September 14, 1937 to Horace and Kathleen McDaniel.
He served in the United States Navy for four years and the Marine Honor Guard for six years. He retired from the Illinois Central Railroad after a thirty four year career as a Conductor/Brakeman.
His hobbies included raising and breaking horses, hunting, fishing, golf, camping, racing motorcycles and stock car racing.
He was of the Baptist Faith.
Fred married Judith Ann “Judy” Barton in Aril 11, 1959, they celebrated nearly 54 years of marriage before her passing on February 16, 2013. He later married Linda Sullivan May who survives in Mayfield, KY.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons; Chris (Leigh Ann) McDaniel, Cadiz, KY., Bob McDaniel, New Concord, KY., Four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and two step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren. His step children; Teresa (Gary) Sullivan, Mayfield, KY., Steve (Tammy May, Hickory, KY., Beth (Keith) McKinney, Mayfield, KY and Sandy May, Mayfield, KY. Several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a brother in law; Norman (Diane) Barton, Centralia, IL. In addition to his first wife and parents he was preceded in death by two sisters; Jackie McDaniel Iler and Jerry McDaniel Phillips
Funeral services for Fred McDaniel will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield with Steve May officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield after 12 noon Sunday.
