Salem firefighters responded to a combined fire on the Wilkins farm on Hoots Chapel Road late Friday afternoon. Firemen say a fire extinguisher was used to control the fire until the fire department arrived and put it out completely. The machine sustained some damage. The fire did not spread to the field. The fire call came in at 4:50 Friday afternoon.
Salem firefighters report a malfunction in one of the air conditioners on the roof of the Salem Community Theatre on South Broadway on Friday morning, sending smoke into the theatre building. The fire department asked the theatre to check on the building after hearing noises coming from the unit. Firefighters shut off the air conditioner until repairs could be made and pulled smoke out of the theatre building. There was no lasting smoke damage. The fire call came in at nine Friday morning.
