The Centralia City Council has approved close of streets for two upcoming events in the city.

The Locust Street Pub was given permission to close a portion of South Locust in front of their business for a musical performance for Joey Adams from six to midnight on August 22nd. L.D. Kretzer said he didn’t realize the event would be on Balloon Fest weekend when he scheduled it about six months ago. The council approved the request after learning Krutsinger would be hiring two security guards and that Centralia Police and ESDA did not see a problem with the timing of the event.

The council approved closing a portion of West Broadway for the annual Monster Crawl on October 17th.

Both events are also seeking approval to sell beer and allow its consumption on the street and sidewalk.

The council received an update from the Tourism Commission which thanked the Greater Centralia Chamber of Commerce for their work in increasing views to the seecentralia.com website and Facebook page. The commission has a contract with the chamber to oversee tourism promotion.

Centralia City Manager Galen Mahle announced the city would be seeking another OSLAD grant for additional improvements to Laura Leake Park. He said a decision on what improvements to include has not yet been decided but will be before an August public hearing on the submittal.

The council also approved the reappointment of Jeremy Henderson to the Police Pension Board.
