Salem Community High School Superintendant Dr. Brad Detering provided an update to the school board Monday night on summer construction projects.
He reports all but one should be completed before the start of school.
“The largest project, the roof project is slated to be wrapped up in middle to late next week, so by the end of July that project will be completed,” Detering said. “We’ve got the door hardware project on some interior doors. Most of those are already installed, they’re mainly on some touch-up work. The gym basketball goals are supposed to be installed this week with the bleachers being installed next week. All of those are running on schedule, just as we had hoped.”
Detering says the only project that will not be completed in time for the start of school is the video scoreboard in the gym. It is due to arrive the week of August 20th and isn’t expected to be installed until September 1st. As a result, the first few volleyball games will not have the board available.
Detering gave a final report on the budget for the just completed school year.
“The end of the fiscal year turned out extremely positive with some surplus balances, but those surplus balances are going to be spent here to pay for these projects that are on schedule but haven’t been fully paid for. We still have some money that is showing in a surplus, but is really going to be spent out here as the summer projects wrap up.”
Detering says there will also be surplus money available to complete next year’s building improvement project, which includes placing new tile in most of the classrooms on all three floors.
No one attended a public hearing on the school’s e-learning plan. The board agreed to utilize it’s same e-learning plan for another three years. The state allows the plan to be utilized for up to five days a year for emergency situations such as severe weather.
The board accepted a letter of intent to retire from Kevin Braddy at the end of the 2029-30 school year.
The board hired Carla Henken as a kitchen helper.
