A 1982 Chevy that had spent ten years parked in a barn before being restored caught fire and was destroyed on its first trip Friday afternoon.
Jefferson Fire officials say David Wagner of rural Texico was trying out the car on the 18-thousand block of North County Farm Road when it began acting up. He pulled to the side of the road and saw fire under the hood.
The fire then spread and was destroyed before firefighters arrived to put out the fire.
The fire call came in at 3:12 Friday afternoon.
