The IHSA baseball sectional finals were held on Saturday with the Super Sectionals tonight around the state as teams play for a trip to the State Final Four.
The North Clay Cardinals left no doubt as they rout Cumberland to win the Altamont 1a Sectional 17-4 in 5 innings scoring 10 runs in the 1st. Jack Compton with the win as the Cardinals improve to 34-4 on the season. They will head to SIU-Carbondale on Monday when they take on Goreville at 4pm after the Blackcats won at home over visiting Edwards County on Saturday 9-6.
It will be a sea of Blue on Monday night at SIU-Carbondale when the 2a Super Sectional will be held at 7pm featuring the Pinckneyville Panthers and Freeburg. Pinckneyville advanced by winning the Benton Sectional over Massac County in a 2-1 thriller. Freeburg used another strong pitching performance to shutout St Anthony at Greenville 3-0.
Triad won their own 3a Sectional with a win over rival Mascoutah 10-2 to advance to the Millikin University Super Sectional Monday night at 6pm against Normal University.
