Jefferson County Coroner Roger Hayse says an 18-month-old girl who was run over in the driveway of a rural Opdyke home Friday night died from blunt force trauma to the head.
He has identified the boy as Jesiah Rodriguez of the Mt. Vernon area. She was pronounced dead by a deputy coroner just after eight Friday night at the scene of the accident. An autopsy on Monday determined her cause of death.
Hayse says there are still questions on how the accident occurred at 8:05 Friday night in the driveway of a home in the 1200 block of North Lighthouse Lane.
Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction, the Illinois Child Death Investigation Task Force, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office all have been requested to assist in the investigation.
The case is considered open and under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
