The Plaza Verde housing complex at 1200 West Fourth in Centralia was evacuated late Saturday night for what turned out to be a minor fire.
Centralia City Firemen say the fire in a trash can in a bathroom of one of the rooms was apparently started by a discarded cigarette. The fire was confined to the trash can, with minor damage to the flooring beneath it and some smoke on the wall around it. A small amount of smoke also had to be removed from the bathroom and the hallway.
Firemen received the call at 11:43 Saturday night and were on the scene for about 40 minutes. Residents were able to move back inside once the all-clear was given.
