A 52-year-old Mt. Vernon man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for the murder of his wife in September 2025.
Judge Jerry Crisel handed down the sentence to John Finney in Jefferson County Court. He had been found guilty in a four-day jury trial in March for the first-degree murder of Amy Finney with a firearm enhancement. The judge rejected Finney’s motion for a new trial. Finney will have to serve 100-percent of the sentence.
Finney became the subject of a search after the sheriff’s department received a report of a possible homicide. A Christopher police officer spotted the car and followed it until back up arrived. After Finney was detained, police found Amy Finney deceased in the vehicle. Further evidence was found at their home, where testimony indicated Amy Finney had died from a gunshot wound during a domestic disturbance.
