The Salem City Council Monday night approved $89,000 in funding through motor fuel tax funds to finalize the funding for resurfacing of West Whitaker Street from Westgate to Delmar and Westgate Avenue from West Main to West Mitchell. The Illinois Department of Transportation is expected to put out the project for bid later this summer, with work possibly beginning later in the year.
The council approved a new TIF Two District project. H and H Holdings, LLC will receive up to $90,000 in TIF-eligible reimbursement for the renovation and remodeling of the former Flint Ink building on West Main Street between Salem Tire and North American Lighting.
The council approved an amendment to the Conant Development TIF 4 agreement to allow them to continue to capture reimbursement for TIF eligible expenses as they continue to build their apartment complex on Airport Road. The cap on reimbursement remains at $ 1 million.
The council approved a $23,300 bid from Built More to remove and replace the roof on the gas plant shed on South College Street.
A chlorine analyzer was purchased for $12,350. It will replace an older unit that requires expensive testing materials.
The council named Shelli McIntosh to an opening on the Airport Authority Board.
After a closed session, the council confirmed the termination of former Police Chief Todd Boles for cause. City officials have not released details about the dismissal.
