The Illinois Prime is a new AAU basketball organization out of Mt Vernon. The varsity high school team is coached by former Ram standout Amir Span.
The Prime traveled to the Threat Hoops Crossover Classic in St Louis this weekend and dominated play going 5-0 on their way to the championship. The team won the title game 65-50.
They opened tournament play on Saturday with 3 wins beating OCYM Hoops 49-41, Integrity Elite 63-30 and 34 Academy 54-17. They Sunday they got another win over 34 Academy 57-33 to advance to the finals where they beat OCYM Holy Hoops.
The Prime includes Salem seniors to be Avery and Payton Gullion along with Tyson Frick of Woodlawn, Gavin Hooper of Mt Vernon as well as kids from Waltonville, Crab Orchard and Madison.
