The IHSA softball sectionals began yesterday.  In 1a, South Central fell to the hosts at Casey Westfield 6-2 in the opening semifinal.  In the night cap, Windsor used a walk-off suicide squeeze play in the bottom of the 8th to beat Edwards County 1-0.  Kalia Freise but down the bunt to score Mya Friese with the game winning run.

 

At Hardin, Carrollton beat Marissa 6-5, Waltonville 16-0 over Pope County at Elverado.  Tonight, Goreville and Crab Orchard play at Elverado and Okawville takes on the hosts at Hardin Calhoun.

 

In 2a, Carterville senior pitcher Caidence Phillips became the all-time strikeout leader for Carterville Tuesday in their 9-0 shutout of Pinckneyville.  She broke Brittany Ashton’s record of 945 k’s.  She now sits at 947 and counting as the Lady Lions will play in the Sectional finals on Friday.  Phillips will continue her softball career at the University of Illinois next year.

 

Olney beat Columbia 7-2 at Nashville.

 

Tonight, Tolono Unity and Robinson play at Monticello, Flora and Red Bud at Nashville and Mt Carmel takes on Anna Jonesboro at Pinckneyville.

 

In 3a at Kaskaskia College, Waterloo beat Jerseyville 10-01 and Glenwood shutout Marion 10-0.

 

In 4a Edwardsville advanced to the Bradley finals with a 9-5 win over Belleville East at Belleville West High School.
