Brody Collier was dominant on the hill, as the pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in Salem Varsity WildCats’s 14-0 victory over Flora on Monday. Collier surrendered four hits and zero runs over six innings while walking three.
Salem Varsity WildCats got on the board in the top of the first inning after Flora committed an error, and Salem Varsity WildCats scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.
Salem Varsity WildCats added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Zane Applegate grounded into a fielder’s choice, Luke Boldt grounded out, and Carter Lowe walked, each scoring one run.
Salem Varsity WildCats scored five runs on five hits in the top of the sixth inning. Kyler King singled, scoring one run, Keytin Grawe singled, scoring one run, Logan Butts singled, scoring one run, Lowe was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Owen Tennyson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Himelick took the loss for Flora. The starting pitcher went four innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking 10.
Lowe and Tennyson were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Salem Varsity WildCats. King and Collier each collected two hits for Salem Varsity WildCats. Butts paced Salem Varsity WildCats with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing 14 walks for the game. King stole two bases.
Massie, Warren, Parker, and Colclasure each collected one hit for Flora.
The Wildcats advance to the 2a Vandalia Regional semifinal against top-seed Teutopolis at 4:30 on Wednesday.
