The Centralia City Council is looking at connecting the new sidewalks on Airport and Country Club Roads to the downtown area.

A resolution is on the Tuesday night city council agenda for a professional services agreement with Volkert, Inc. for real estate land acquistion. Public Works Director Jeff Schwartz says Volkert, Inc would assist with easement acquisitions for 12 parcels along the route. The city is currently seeking an ITEP grant to complete the actual construction of the downtown connection. The city is utilizing Safe Route to School grants to complete the new sidewalks along Airport and Country Club Roads.

The council is also scheduled to get an update from Milano and Grunloh Engineers, LLC, and on CN Railroad Repairs. The city will also receive recognition from the Illinois Department of Public Health for fluoride quality in the city water system.

The meeting gets underway at six Tuesday night at Centralia City Hall, a day later than usual due to the Memorial Day Holiday.
