Two Memorial Day services are planned in Centralia this Memorial Day weekend.

The first will be the 19th Annual Memorial Celebration Service in honor of the many veterans from all wars who are buried in Elmwood Cemetery. The Time of Remembrance will be held at ten Saturday morning at the Pittenger War Monument. The guest speaker is Ray Young. Rowena Patrick will provide the music. The program will conclude with the placement of the wreaths by Centralia Mayor Bryan Kuder, Wamac Mayor Jackie Butch’ Mathus, and Central City Mayor Neely Reed to be followed by the Three Volley Salute. The annual event is sponsored by the Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

On Monday, the Memorial Day program held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia has been moved to the American Legion due to wet grounds and potential for additional rain. It will begin at 11 am. The Keynote Speaker is U.S. Marine Veteran, Sergeant Dusty Meier. Scout Veller wil perform the National Anthem and sing ‘God Bless America&’ and ‘The Lords Prayer’

Scouting America will do the Flag Presentation and Flag Folding Ceremony. The Laying of the Wreaths at the Sacred Shrine will follow. The sponsor this year is the American Legion with all other veterans organizations co-hosting the annual event.
