The Salem Lady Wildcats competed in the Mattoon 2A Track and Field Sectional on Thursday. As a team, they finished tied for 7th out of 17 teams.
Sophomore Carly Veach had a great day on the track qualifying for the State Meet in two events. She placed 2nd in the 100 Hurdles with a PR of 15.63, and she ran under the State Qualifying time of 48.64 to earn a fourth place finish in the 300 Hurdles (48.10). Carly completed her individual events with a 6th place finish in the 200 Meters (26.72).
Senior Hannah Smith earned her third trip to the State Meet in the Discus with a throw of 112-6. This throw was above the State Qualifying Standard and earned her a 4th place finish.
Freshman Emily Parrett also earned a trip to the State Meet. Her throw of 36-3.5 was above the State Qualifying Standard and also earned her a 4th place finish.
Additional highlights of the day included a 4th place finish by the 4X100 Relay team of Kinsey Jarrett, Eniya Jones, Carly Veach, and Finley Puricelli (51.35). Senior Finley Puricelli also ran a PR of 1:01.06 in the 400 Meters and earned a 5th place finish.
In addition to top finishes, Junior Emily Runyon had a PR in the Pole Vault (8-9), Senior Kinsey Jarrett ran a PR in the 400 Meters (1:04.82), and Senior Eden Russell ran a PR in the 1600 Meters (6:53.52).
The IHSA 2A State Track and Field Meet will begin Friday on the campus of Eastern Illinois University.
