South Central baseball history will take center stage on Saturday, May 16th, as the Cougars celebrate the 5-year anniversary of the program’s unforgettable IHSA State Championship run — the first and only state title in school history since the consolidation of Farina/LaGrove and Kinmundy-Alma in the 1988-89 school year.

That magical season, led by longtime head coach Curt Jones, ended with the Cougars reaching the mountaintop and bringing home a championship that will forever stand as one of the greatest accomplishments in South Central athletics.

As a former Cougar player, it was an honor I’ll never forget to be on the radio call for that historic state title game against Father McGivney, alongside fellow former Cougar Craig Holmes, as we watched South Central make history.

Now, five years later, it’s time to celebrate those memories again.

South Central has added a special home game against the Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Eagles, with a 6:00 PM first pitch, and a pregame ceremony that will recognize every player from the championship team. Each member of that unforgettable roster will be announced by name as they take the field one more time in front of the Cougar community.

Fans, families, alumni, and supporters are encouraged to come out and help give these players — and Coach Jones — the celebration they deserve.

Let’s pack the stands, relive the moment, and honor a team that made Cougar history.
