The Salem Wildcats will be in action today at home when they host Roxana. Salem fell to the Shells on the road 2-1 on Tuesday.
Maurer Solid, Rams Late Rally Beats Herrin
Cale Maurer struck out 11 as the Mt Vernon Rams beat visiting Herrin 7-3 at the Cusumano Sports Complex. He allowed 3 hits and 3 runs over six innings. With the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the sixth, the Rams would get ahead with RBI singles by Ty Pierce and Nolan Mast. Mast finished going 3-3 with Pierce and Maurer driving in 2 runs each. Mt Vernon will travel to Mattoon tomorrow.
Reed’s Walk Off Leads Marion Over CHS
Aiden Reed lined a walk-off single to left in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over Centralia on Wednesday at Mtn. Dew Park. The win gave the Wildcats an advantage in the South 7 race battle as pitching was strong on both sides. Preston Feig had the only Centralia hit. Archie Goewey went the distance allowing 4 hits and just the one run with 7 strikeouts. The win keeps Marion (14-6, 4-1 South Seven) in the thick of the conference race after entering the day tied with the Orphans and Mt. Vernon atop the standings. Centralia fell to 8-10 (3-2).
Althoff Nips CORLHS
Christ Our Rock and Althoff were both solid on the mound but an RBI double from Robbie Smith in the 3rd inning was all the scoring as the Crusaders beat the Stallions 1-0. Colton Cartright was the starter for the Stallions and allowed just 5 hits and the lone run in six innings. Cartright, Garrett Denton and Carson French had hits in the loss. The two teams will play in Belleville today.
