Salem Township Hospital CEO Jim Timpe told the hospital board Wednesday they had a good fiscal year which ended March 30th.
He noted a number of accomplishments.
“The past fiscal year we did come in slightly above budget, which is great,” Timpe said. “Our quality scores improved, our patient satisfaction scores improved, and our turnover numbers are lower than expected and much lower than the national average, so we’re keeping people here in place to serve the community.”
The hospital finished the year 9.9 percent over budget and with a patient satisfaction score of 89.1 percent. Charity care provided to those with no way to pay their medical bills increased to $1,672,327. Timpe expects it to increase again this fiscal year due to some losing Medicaid benefits. He feels fiscal year 2027 will be a more challenging fiscal year.
Timpe also reported two new nurse practitioners will begin work at the Whitaker Street family medical clinic in June. They are Julia Roberts of Salem who will also oversee the hospital’s new wound clinic that will open this summer. The other new nurse practitioner is Melissa Seibert of Centralia, who is returning to the hospital. Timpe says the two nurse practitioners will bring the number of providers at West Whitaker back up to four and fill all the provider openings. He also reported the hospital has made progress in filling out open positions, but some remain open, mainly on the overnight shift.
