Vernetta Carlene Langston, 96, of Irvington, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026. She was born on November 1, 1929, in Anna, IL, the daughter of Carl and Edna (Hileman) Williams. She married the love of her life, Junior E. Langston, on May 26, 1956, in Mississippi, and he preceded her in death on September 4, 2015.

Survivors include her son, David Langston of Irvington, IL; daughters, Connie (Tom) Lilienkamp of Christinia, TN, and Sharon (Matt) Tucker of Carlyle, IL; grandchildren, Matt Lilienkamp, Heather (Cody) Shelnutt, Andrea (Brian) Hutchins, Alex Tucker, and Taylor Tucker; ten great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Vernetta was the heart of her home and welcomed family and friends to share great memories, fun, food, and wonderful conversations. She was supportive, encouraging, and so very proud of her family. Vernetta offered a kind listening ear and would give honest, helpful advice to her children and grandchildren. She could crochet beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces with her talented fingers, excited to gift family and friends with her handiwork. Vernetta was sweet, loyal, kind to all, and loved her family above all. All will remember her amazing life with grateful hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Langston, parents -Carl and Edna Williams, sisters -Leatrice Landis, Velda Mae Deal, and Kathleen Williams

A private graveside service will be held at Friedens Cemetery in Irvington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vernetta’s honor to the National Diabetes Association and will be accepted for her family at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home, 234 South Elm St., Centralia, IL 62801.
