Kaskaskia College has presented its Educational Partnership Award to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.  The award is based on developing a four-year agriculture degree that can be entirely completed without traveling to Carbondale.  Vice Chancellor Wendall Williams, who accepted the award, says students will receive the benefit.

“If they came to SIU, that cost for a four-year degree including the ability to live in the residence halls, would be about $135,000,” Willams said. “But when they do their four years here with the combination of dual credit from your local high schools, and the other additional programs that they can take as concurrent enrollment classes and finishing here on campus, it knocks $100,000 off of the cost of that education.”

College President George Evans later in the program noted the agriculture program is the future of education as educators are under pressure to bring down the cost of a college education.

In introducing SIU-C as the partnership award recipient, they noted the collaboration reflects a forward-looking commitment to student success, workforce development, and the continued advancement of higher education across Southern Illinois.
