The Salem Wildcats used a 15-1 run in the 3rd quarter after their game at Flora was tied at 27 at the halftime break and would hold on to beat the Wolves 64-60. Salem was led by junior Payton Gullion who finished with a career high 25 points on a scorching 8-of-9 shooting which included a big dunk in traffic. Senior Ryegan Warren hit 2 free throws late to help the Cats pull away as he finished with 9 along with birthday boy Kaeden Bevolo and Luke Boldt who did it off the bench. Avery Gullion added 8 and Logan Butts pulled down 5 rebounds. Salem was 23-of-33 from the field in the game which included going 7-of-11 from three. They improve to 9-7 as they head to Roxana on Friday before hosting Vandalia Saturday night.
The JV opened the night with a 42-37 win.
The Orphans improved to 15-1 with an easy 76-38 road win at Highland. The Bulldogs fall to 3-11 as Centralia used a 30-11 third quarter to pull away.
In a top 10 battle in 1a, 9th ranked Webber handed #1 ranked Woodlawn their first loss of the season 62-54. Webber scoring sensation Nathaniel Marlow had 37 which gives him 2,609 in his career which is 22nd all-time in Illinois. Waylon Jones added 13. Luke McKay hit 6 three’s for Woodlawn and had 24 with Kyle Cooper adding 18.
Teutopolis improved to 13-2 with a 71-49 win over Monticello. Gavin Addis had 12 in the balanced Shoes attack.
